Cold front to bring storms Thursday morning

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia will see storms arrive ahead of the sunrise Thursday morning as a cold front moves into the region.
This Evening
A sunny and pollen filled afternoon (the strong winds from the southwest haven’t helped with that latter part) will become a cloudier night ahead of Thursday’s cold front. Expect temperatures to stay in the low to mid 60s ahead of the arrival of thunderstorms. Wind gusts will range from 20-30 mph through the overnight hours as well.
Storms Early Thursday
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” for all of Middle Georgia in regards to this incoming cold front. While it is split between Wed/Thu the split time is 8 AM EDT. At this point the line of storms will likely be halfway through the region. The main severe hazard to be concerned with is a few damaging wind gusts from the initial line. The strongest gusts could range from 60-75 mph. Some small hail will also be possible though and a brief spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out. The rain will pass through too quickly for any flash flood concerns, however morning commutes may be a bit dicey with low visibility.
The Rest of the Day
Sunny skies will return over the back half of Thursday accompanied by powerful northwest winds ranging from 10-20 mph. Gusts could be anywhere from 25-35 mph. This will ultimately keep high temperatures in the mid-upper 60s.
Overnight will be much chillier as the northerly winds shift slightly to the east while slowing. Gusts could still reach to around 15 mph while sustained speeds range from 5-10 mph. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Friday and Beyond
A sunny end to the week is expected with much more seasonal temperatures. Highs will reach the upper 60s and lower 70s accompanied by winds from the south at 5-10 mph. A rebound in temperatures is expected over the weekend. The next chance for rain looks to be Sunday afternoon and evening as the next front arrives to start the next work week.
