Bill Clinton To Testify On Jeffrey Epstein Ties As Lawmakers Demand Answers

(NBC)- Former President Bill Clinton is set to answer questions about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell, as lawmakers from both parties continue probing the high-profile case.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said no one is accusing the Clintons of wrongdoing but acknowledged there are “a lot of questions” surrounding the former president’s relationship with Epstein.

Clinton has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. However, he has appeared in multiple photos with Epstein, and his name appears hundreds of times in files released by the Justice Department.

Both Republicans and Democrats say they want more clarity about the nature of that relationship.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat for her own deposition Thursday, spending nearly six hours answering questions. Speaking afterward, she said she is confident her husband has nothing to hide.

“The connection that he had with Epstein ended years before anything about Epstein’s criminal activities came to light,” she said.

Hillary Clinton also stated she never met Epstein and had no communication with him, though she described Maxwell as a casual acquaintance.

“I never met Jeffrey Epstein, never had any connection or communication with him. I knew Ghislaine Maxwell casually as an acquaintance,” she said.

She also accused some Republican lawmakers of veering off topic during questioning, saying she was asked about unrelated conspiracy theories.

Democrats present during the deposition said her testimony, once released, will show she responded forcefully and effectively. Republicans, however, said they were dissatisfied with some of her answers and suggested she was evasive.

Democrats argue that calling the Clintons to testify opens the door to compelling testimony from Donald Trump, whose name also appears in Epstein-related records. Republicans have cast doubt on whether that will happen, noting that Trump has previously addressed questions about Epstein publicly.
