MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Clouds will arrive Saturday ahead of much needed rain around Middle Georgia on Sunday.

This Evening

A sunny and seasonal afternoon will give way to a clear and chilly night. Conditions are dry around the region with a Fire Danger Statement in effect until 7PM ET. Even once this expires however humidity will remain low through the night. Anyone doing Friday night activities involving fire outdoors need to make sure the fire is completely extinguished when finished. This is despite winds remaining calm through the night, generally from the east-southeast. Low temperatures are expected in the mid 30s for much of the region. It’s not impossible a location or two get down to freezing once again.

Valentine’s Day

While the cloud cover will increase throughout the afternoon on Saturday those with Valentines plans in the evening shouldn’t need to worry about rain. The afternoon will still be warm with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s and lower 70s accompanied by light wind from the southeast. While a stray shower or two during the afternoon/evening are possible, the odds are overall against it.

Overnight is when rain odds will increase as showers move in from the west. It will be a much warmer night than Friday with lows expected in the upper 40s and lower 50s. The wind will begin to increase as it shifts more towards the south-southeast by sunrise on Sunday.

Sunday and Beyond

The back half of the weekend will feature all the rain as widespread activity is expected Sunday. While thunder and lightning are possible this largely should be a consistent moderate rain event. Severe weather is largely not anticipated with the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) placing the southwestern reaches of Middle Georgia in a Level 1 “Marginal” threat for Sunday. There will be plenty of wind however: sustained speeds will range from 10-20 mph with gusts reaching as high as 30 mph.

Rain will continue into Sunday night before subsiding by Monday morning. Rain totals for much of the region are anticipated to range between half an inch and an inch.

Sunny conditions will return Monday as temperatures will climb even warmer during the coming work week. It will not be too long from now before pollen becomes widespread around Middle Georgia.
