Dodge County fire leaves one dead, another injured

EASTMAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — One person is dead after a residential fire in Dodge County on Tuesday.

According to a Dodge County Fire Department news release, crews responded to a reported structure fire on Old Rebie Road outside of Chester. Dispatchers told responders one victim was believed to be trapped inside the home.

The release says crews arrived to find the structure fully involved and began an aggressive fire attack before searching the home. Firefighters from Dodge State Prison Fire Team and Bleckley County Fire Department helped at the scene.

One victim was located inside the home once the fire was brought under control, the release said. The victim’s identity has not been released and is pending autopsy and investigation.

An additional occupant was injured while trying to rescue the victim by entering the home through an outside window.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
