55-year-old inmate dies after being found unresponsive at Bibb County Jail

Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy as internal review continues.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 55-year-old woman died Sunday after being found unresponsive inside her cell at the Bibb County Jail.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, deputies found Rachel Renee Robinson unresponsive inside her cell around 2:08 p.m. Deputies say medical staff immediately began life-saving measures until Emergency Medical Services arrived. Robinson was taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent, where she was pronounced dead just before 6 p.m.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones confirmed Robinson’s family has been notified.

According to the sheriff’s office, Robinson had been held at the Bibb County Jail following her arrest by Atrium Health Navicent Police Department on November 22, 2025, on a charge of battery against a law enforcement officer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy. The death is also being reviewed by Internal Affairs investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards.
