Rain expected overnight; clouds stick around tomorrow

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –
.
This Evening
An overcast and cool day will become a rainy night thanks to low pressure approaching the Peach State from the southwest. The region has been dealing with drought for a few months now and this should be some rain that helps some. That said this will be chilly rain as Middle Georgia will likely be under/just northwest of the Low. The heaviest rain should arrive after midnight and activity will still be ongoing by sunrise tomorrow.
Were temperatures about 15-20 degrees cooler it would be the ideal setup for a good snow. Instead, however, low temperatures overnight will be in the mid to upper 40s accompanied by an east-northeast wind of 5-10 mph. Gusts should hover around 15 mph however they could reach as high as 20 mph.
Tomorrow
As mentioned above rain will still be going for many across Middle Georgia as the sun rises on Tuesday. This should taper off in the late morning, however, leaving mostly cloudy skies and respectable chilly gusts (20ish mph) from the northwest the rest of the day. Expect high temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Overnight should be clear with lows likely to drop below freezing across the region. The wind will remain from the northwest but back off to around 5-10 mph with gusts to around 15.
Wednesday and Beyond
Mostly sunny skies are expected for Hump Day and this will likely be the only sunny day of the week. Another wave of clouds will arrive overnight Wednesday into Thursday and rain odds will climb again Thursday and Friday. This second opportunity of the week for rain will also help with drought conditions around the region.
