Cable line vandalized in Roberta; Public Service asks for tips

The company says it found stolen copper and damaged fiber off Highway 80 and is asking residents to report suspicious activity.

UPDATE: Public Service said in an update Wednesday afternoon that all services had been restored.

“All services have been restored from the incident early this morning,” a post stated. “If you’re still experiencing any issues, please call us right away at 478-847-4111 so we can resolve it as quickly as possible.”

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Public Service, a century-old communications provider in Middle and South Georgia, says someone vandalized one of its cable lines off Highway 80 in Roberta around midnight Wednesday.

According to a company Facebook post, the crime happened near Running Deer Road and resulted in stolen copper and damaged fiber.

Public Service warned that “it is a federal crime and a violation of state law to damage communications facilities or equipment.”

The company asked anyone who saw anything suspicious around that time to call (478) 847-4111. According to the post, all tips will remain anonymous.

Public Service has operated in Middle Georgia since 1910 and serves rural and city customers across the region.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about the incident.
