Warner Robins community invited to turn in unwanted firearms
The program provides an anonymous way for adults to surrender unwanted or found firearms that may pose a risk in their homes.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Warner Robins Police Department, in partnership with community organizations, will host Operation Lay It Down, an initiative aimed at reducing gun violence in Houston County.
The program provides an anonymous way for adults to surrender unwanted or found firearms that may pose a risk in their homes. The department says the goal is to prevent potential tragedies and decrease the number of firearms that could be stolen or used in criminal activity.
Operation Lay It Down encourages residents to remove firearms they no longer want, do not feel safe storing, or have discovered unexpectedly, without fear of legal consequences. Law enforcement officials will ensure all firearms collected are handled securely, and any that are identified as stolen will be returned to their rightful owners.
The firearm turn-in event will take place November 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Perkins Park in Warner Robins.
Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher released the following statement:
“By offering a safe space for our residents to turn in unwanted firearms, we are working to prevent potential tragedies and reduce the number of stolen weapons that can contribute to crime. Our mission is to promote safety and awareness while continuing to respect the rights of responsible gun owners.”
