Goodwill hosting Thrift Week Passport Challenge

Thrift With Impact: Goodwill Celebrates National Thrift Shop Day with One-Week Mission-Driven Shopping Challenge in Middle Georgia.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – This National Thrift Shop Day, Goodwill of Middle Georgia is celebrating what sets it apart from other thrift and resale options — every purchase helps someone build a better future.

As part of a nonprofit mission that provides education, skills training, and career services to more than 5,000 Middle Georgians each year, Goodwill transforms donated goods into opportunities for neighbors facing barriers to employment.

To mark the occasion, Goodwill is hosting a special one-week Thrift Week Passport Challenge, running through Sunday, August 24, encouraging shoppers to explore multiple Goodwill retail training stores, collect stamps, and enter to win a $100 Goodwill gift card.

For Middle Georgians, Goodwill is more than a place for great deals, it’s a bridge to opportunity.

Take Marcus, a single father from Warner Robins who was struggling to find steady work after a layoff. Through Goodwill’s career coaching and training at Helms College’s School of Trades, Marcus earned his HVAC certification and is now supporting his family with a full-time job. “Shopping at Goodwill gave me a second chance. Even if shoppers don’t know my name, they’ve been part of my success,” he said.

How the Thrift Week Passport Challenge Works

  • Pick up your passport at a participating Middle Georgia store:
    • Dublin | 2005 Veterans Blvd, Dublin, GA 31020
    • Macon | 5171 Eisenhower Pkwy, Macon GA 31206
    • Warner Robins | 2823 Watson Blvd, Warner Robins, GA 31093
    • Lake Oconee | 1030 Lake Oconee Pkwy, Eatonton, GA 31024
  • Make a purchase at multiple stores to collect stamps.
  • Submit your completed passport by August 24 for a chance to win a $100 Goodwill gift card.

Over the past five years, Goodwill of Middle Georgia has kept more than 14 million pounds of reusable goods in circulation locally, part of 4.4 billion pounds recovered across the Goodwill network. That means fewer items in landfills, more resources conserved, and more funding for the education, skills training, and career services that help neighbors build better lives.
