Perry launches ‘Love, Dolly’ book drive to benefit local children

The book drive will conclude during the inaugural Bites & Beats Festival, which will be held from noon to 8 p.m. September 12 in Historic Downtown Perry.

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Perry is inviting the community to honor Dolly Parton’s legacy by donating new children’s books as part of its Love, Dolly Book Drive.

The book drive runs through September 12, with all collected books going to the Houston County Public Library to be shared with children in the community. The initiative celebrates Parton’s longtime commitment to literacy and encouraging children to read.

“Dolly Parton showed us that a book can be so much more than pages. It can spark a child’s imagination, build confidence, and open the door to possibilities they may not have seen before,” said Autumn Camerion, Special Events Administrator. “The Love, Dolly Book Drive gives our community a simple but meaningful way to honor her legacy by putting books directly into the hands of local children. I can’t think of a more fitting tribute than helping her love of reading continue right here in Perry.”

New children’s books can be dropped off at the City of Perry Administration Building at 1211 Washington St. or the Visit Perry Welcome Center at Perry City Hall at 808 Carroll St. Donations will also be accepted during Perry’s Bites & Beats Festival in Historic Downtown Perry on September 12.

The book drive will conclude during the inaugural Bites & Beats Festival, which will be held from noon to 8 p.m. September 12 in Historic Downtown Perry.

The free festival will feature live music, food, shopping and family-friendly activities.

Community members are encouraged to donate books appropriate for children at any collection location before the drive ends.
