Career Coach Urges you to Promote Soft Skills

With the unemployment rate over 10% in Macon many of you are probably trying to find a job.  Career Coach Hallie Crawford joined us with ways to use your soft skills in this hard job market.

Most people focus on promoting their hard skills like education and training, but when recruiters are asked what employers look for in candidates, their top 10 answers are soft skills.  Soft skills include communication skills, understanding how to work effectively in a team and strong work ethic. Crawford says these are things an employer can’t teach you.

Crawford is a major advocate of using social networking to stand out in your job search.  Some recruiters are reporting that up to 80% of their recruiting is done through Linkedin.

She says in-person networking is even more critical in a smaller job market like Middle Georgia so focus there first, and remember networking truly can happen anywhere. Crawford suggests you travel to larger markets like Atlanta for job fairs.
