12-year-old dies after motocross crash in Crawford County

A 12-year-old boy died after being injured during a motocross event in Crawford County on Saturday, according to Sheriff Lewis Walker.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 12-year-old boy died after being injured during a motocross event in Crawford County on Saturday, according to Sheriff Lewis Walker.

Walker says the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 10:30 a.m. on from Community Ambulance Service regarding an injured rider at Echeconnee Motocross, located at 5070 Marshall Mill Road.

Deputies identified the injured rider as 12-year-old Dalton Hill, who was participating in an event at the motocross facility when he was hurt. Emergency responders transported him to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, where hospital staff pronounced him dead.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Sheriff Walker said additional details will be provided as the investigation continues.

Georgia Military College Prep School in Milledgeville, where Hill was a student, shared a statement on Facebook on Saturday.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of GMC Prep School student Dalton Hill that occurred over the weekend at an event with his family,” the post read. “Our thoughts and our prayers go out to his family, friends, and all who loved him. As a school community, we will be there for each other through this difficult time and keep Dalton’s memory alive in our hearts. Together, we will remain in support of our GMC Family.”

Echeconnee MX, which bills itself as “The Oldest Running Motocross Track in Georgia” on Facebook, said in a Monday post it was “deeply heartbroken by the passing of a member of our Motocross family, Dalton Hill, at this weekend’s race.”

“Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Dalton’s family and friends,” the post continued. “Please wrap your arms around the Hill Family and everyone affected by this tragic accident.”

A GoFundMe page set up by Hill’s family and friends had raised more than $25,000 as of 4 p.m. Monday.
