MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two men were arrested after a Bibb County deputy stopped a speeding car in an active school zone and reported finding drugs and a modified handgun, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened just after 3 p.m. on January 14 when a deputy with the Special Response Team (S.R.T.) Unit saw a Dodge Challenger speeding through a school zone on Bloomfield Road while the warning lights were flashing, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and took the driver, Jaylin Curtis Wilburn, and the passenger, Charlton Jermaine Harris Jr., into custody after reportedly finding marijuana and firearms inside the vehicle. One of the handguns had a switch attached to the back.

Wilburn was charged with driving too fast for conditions and possession of marijuana less than an ounce, according to an email from the sheriff’s office. Harris was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

Both men have since made bond, the sheriff’s office said.
