MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County government offices will close Wednesday, January 22, and trash pickup is delayed as winter weather creates hazardous road conditions.
According to a Macon-Bibb County news release, trash pickup by Ryland Environmental will resume Thursday. Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected Thursday, Thursday routes on Friday, and Friday routes on Saturday.
Recreation facilities, including Amerson River Park, Historic Bowden Golf Course, outdoor tennis and pickleball courts, and recreation centers, will also be closed Wednesday.
Macon-Bibb Transit Authority announced Tuesday night it will also be closed Wednesday.
“The story of this storm system is not just the potential for precipitation…it’s the extended time for dangerously cold temperatures,” Macon-Bibb EMA Director Spencer Hawkins said. “We’re expecting nearly 70 hours of below-freezing temperatures, which means that any precipitation that falls could lead to dangerously icy roads the next few days. We’re asking people to act cautiously.”
Public Works crews continue to treat major roads, intersections and areas near emergency facilities with salt and gravel.
For emergencies, residents should call 911. Non-emergency issues, such as fallen trees or traffic light outages, can be reported at (478) 751-7500 or via the SeeClickFix app. Residents are encouraged to download the free MBCAlert app.
