MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Middle Georgia jury convicted Brian Greene of murder on Thursday for the killings of two men in unrelated, random shootings just eight days apart in 2022, according to a news release from the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
Greene, who was 25 at the time of the murders, was found guilty of fatally shooting Glenn Eugene Stevens on March 23, 2022, during a robbery attempt, and Elijah Rasheed on March 31, 2022, in what investigators believe was a targeted attack. Both victims were strangers to Greene.
According to the news release, Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Parrish led the prosecution with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Thomas Williams and Mercer University School of Law Third Year Law Clerk Lauren Brock. The prosecution argued that Greene’s crime spree started when he approached Stevens, who was on a first date, sitting in a car at an apartment complex on Northside Drive. Prosecutors say Greene tried to rob the couple at gunpoint. Stevens resisted, leading to a struggle during which Greene shot him three times. The woman in the car immediately called 911 and attempted CPR, following instructions from the operator.
Eight days later, Greene struck again, according to the release, fatally shooting Rasheed as he left a Family Dollar on Napier Avenue with friends. Surveillance footage showed Greene raising a firearm and firing a single shot into the car where Rasheed was a passenger. The bullet passed through the trunk, rear seat and into Rasheed’s back. His friends rushed him to the hospital, where he died. Investigators believe Greene targeted the group due to their LGBTQ+ identity.
Greene was also found guilty of aggravated assault against other victims and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. His sentencing will be scheduled at a later date, the District Attorney’s Office said.
“These types of senseless killings have no place in our community,” District Attorney Anita Howard said. “When we have witness and victim cooperation like we did in this case, we have the greatest chance of holding people accountable for their dangerous actions. No one should have to endure this type of fear and pain and trauma. I hope the people of this community understand their power in helping to keep their neighborhoods safe. My office is dedicated to assuring that such crimes are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office thanked the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for its investigative support and help with the prosecution.
