UPDATE: Hilltop Elementary School cleared, no threat found

The Houston County Sheriff's Office says Hilltop Elementary School was cleared and no threat was found.

UPDATE (8:30 p.m.): The Houston County Sheriff’s Office says Hilltop Elementary School was cleared and no threat was found.

According to a news release, the E-911 Center received a call that someone had a gun outside the school. The sheriff’s office, along with officers from the Warner Robins Police Department, responded to the scene.

Law enforcement is now investigating how the threat was received, according to the release.


UPDATE (5:11 p.m.): Officers are now conducting a controlled dismissal of students after Hilltop Elementary School was placed on a Code Red lockdown Wednesday afternoon.

That’s according to a message sent to parents and provided to 41NBC by Houston County School District spokesperson Jennifer Jones.

“Good afternoon, parents. This afternoon during dismissal our school was placed on a Code Red after it was reported that someone had a weapon on campus. Officers responded immediately, and at this time, they have not found anyone with a weapon. As I gather more information, I will share it with you. At this time, officers are doing a controlled dismissal. As always, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority.”

Jones says the report came in around 4 p.m. School dismisses at 3:30, and the majority of students had left campus before the Code Red began.


ORIGINAL STORY (4:38 p.m.):

BONAIRE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – We’re looking into a report of an active law enforcement presence at Hilltop Elementary School.

A video shared on social media Wednesday afternoon showed multiple law enforcement vehicles parked outside the school, which is located at 301 Robert Bryson Smith Parkway.

When reached by phone, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office said the presence was due to an ongoing investigation. We’ve also reached out to the Houston County School District and are awaiting a response.
