More than 1,800 participate in 47th annual Macon Labor Day Road Race

The race started at 7:30 at the Vineville and Pio Nono Avenue intersection.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Runners and walkers gathered early Monday morning for the 47th Macon Labor Day Race.

The race started at 7:30 at the Vineville and Pio Nono Avenue intersection.

“The first three runners came in at just under 15 minutes, which is an amazingly fast time,” Macon Tracks Running Club race director F.M. Barron said. “We’ve had great attendance this year. We’ve got over 1,800 people running.”

Two runners described their experience. One told 41NBC she almost didn’t show up, but now that it’s over, she’s happy she did it.

“I was really happy with it,” Christina Pinkston said. “I think I got 39 minutes, which I was expecting like an hour for a first-timer, so I’m pretty good with that.”

Another 5K runner said it felt amazing.  Katie Yaughn hadn’t laced up her sneakers for a race since having a baby three years ago.

“The peace that comes with running and with exercising and knowing that you’re doing something good for your body,” she said.

Each of these runners said they can’t wait to cross the finish line again next year.
