WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Warner Robins is one step closer to revamping parts its city.
The City of Warner Robins announced Wednesday they received a million dollar multi-purpose grant.
The EPA Brownfields Grant was awarded to Warner Robins by the Environmental Protection Agency to clean up and redevelop parts of Commercial Circle near the intersection of Davis and Watson Boulevard.
Kate Hogan, the Community and Economic Development Director for the city says they will use the funding to treat an 18-acre area.
Hogan says they’ll use some of the money to continue testing the dirt that became contaminated by a former Dry Cleaners.
Hogan says they’ll bring in new dirt and treat the current dirt to remove any residue of the hazardous chemicals. Hogan tells 41NBC, this is just one phase of the project, she says, they will also remove buildings to make room for new commercial and residential structures.
She says receiving this grant is exciting for the City of Warner Robins.
Hogan says, the whole project should take about sixty months to complete.
They expect to begin by the end of the year.
