Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller: ‘Macon is booming’

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)—Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller addressed a packed crowd at the Macon City Auditorium on Tuesday. He discussed the progress of ongoing projects and highlighting the community’s achievements.

The State of the Community Luncheon was filled with information, but the key message was clear: Macon is booming.

With festivals and events like the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Christmas Lights Extravaganza, Visit Macon reports the city brought $12.9 million in economic impact to Macon-Bibb County.

“It’s so much easier to recruit businesses to a community that is experiencing so much momentum and positive change,” said Jessica Walden, the President and CEO of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce. “We want you to choose Macon. We want you to choose Macon for your business. We want you to choose Macon for your place to make your mark.

Tourism is also growing according to Mayor Miller. He says with much attention on the Ocmulgee Mounds, as it could become a national park.

“The bill has been basically approved by everyone. Everybody’s on the same page just waiting for it to drop and go through the process,” he said.

Mayor Miller also spoke on revamping East Macon, raising salaries for public safety, removing blight from the county, paving roads, and providing free mental health resources.
