SPARTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – John Hancock Academy has been awarded the 2023-2024 High School Heroes Scholarship.

Regina Jeffries, Account Manager at Shepeard Community Blood Center, presented the award to John Hancock Academy Headmaster Keith Martin on Tuesday.

The school earned a total of $580 for this school year through its hosting and recruitment of blood donors, according to a Shepeard Community Blood Center news release.

Shepeard Community Blood Center says engaging students in blood donation is crucial for maintaining a steady supply of blood products, which are in constant demand.

“Encouraging young donors to participate is not only rewarding in itself, but it preserves our lifesaving mission to keep blood products stocked for the local hospitals that we serve,” the release stated. “The demand for blood products is continuous, and we play a vital role in fulfilling that need.”
