Macon and Milledgeville Habitats partner to build homes for low-income families
New alliance aims to revive homeownership opportunities in Milledgeville-Baldwin County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Area Habitat for Humanity and Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity announced a new partnership on Thursday aimed at bringing the Habitat mission back to Milledgeville-Baldwin County starting this spring.
According to a news release, board members from both organizations have worked the last six months to develop a partnership that will provide construction of four new homes in Milledgeville-Baldwin County over the next two years.
“This fall the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat affiliate celebrates our 20th anniversary and this was a wonderful opportunity for us to mark this occasion with the return of homeownership opportunities for low-income families in our are,” Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat Board Chair Dan Lavery said. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with the board and staff from the Macon Area Habitat affiliate to bring the important work of Habitat back to our community.”
Macon Area Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Ivey Hall says the partnership comes at a time when the need for affordable housing is rising across the country.
“We are also excited to bring volunteer opportunities back so the entire community can be a part of the mission of Habitat throughout the construction process,” she said.
Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity completed its last home in 2019. Since then, new construction has been stalled due in large part to the impact of the pandemic, the release said.
In 2023, Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity was awarded a CHIP grant through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to fund the construction of four new homes in the area.
“With the support of the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County Government leaders, and the formation of a new Land Bank Authority, some of the land used for the homes will be donated to the affiliate as local leaders work to return once blighted property back to the hands of homeowners,” the release said.
Homeownership applications will open later this spring. For more information about the homeownership process and volunteer opportunities, visit www.milledgevillehabitat.org.
