Friday Night Drag Racing And Car Show Wow Fans At Atlanta Motor Speedway

HAMPTON, GA – Last Friday night saw the season points opener of the 2011 Friday Night Drags and Car Show series return to Atlanta Motor Speedway’s pit lane drag strip.

Senoia’s Chris Thompson picked the right time to earn his first final round victory at Friday Night Drags, picking up the win in the Truck Division driving a 1957 Chevrolet.

The Jersey Thunder Jet Car, a jet engine-powered dragster capable of reaching a speed of more than 225 mph in less than five seconds, also wowed fans before drag racing eliminations.

McDonough’s Mark White remains the only driver to have won at all five Friday Night Drags events of the season so far following his Super Pro Victory in his 1967 Shelby Mustang. Locust Grove’s Rodney Tolbert swept both the ATV and ATV Modified Divisions, winning on two separate Yamaha Banshees.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags and MCR Safety Show-N-Shine resumes this Friday, June 10. Gates open at 6:30 pm and nightly drag race eliminations start after 9:00 pm.

Entry to drag race or for MCR Safety Show N’ Shine is just $20 or competitors can purchase a combo ticket for $30. Spectator tickets at Friday Night Drags are just $8 for adults and children under six are free.
