Vanderbilt Gets Piece Of SEC Championship With Win Over Bulldogs

ATHENS, GA – Vanderbilt won a share of the Southeastern Conference baseball championship with a 17-7 win over Georgia in Athens on Saturday.

The Commodores will open SEC Tournament play on Wednesday with seeding yet to be determined. The Commodores can be the third or fourth seed in the tournament depending on the outcome of the Florida-Kentucky game. This is the team’s first time to win a piece of the championship since 2007.

Vanderbilt was leading going into the sixth inning, when the Bulldogs scored four runs and then had back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning. Vanderbilt then scored five runs on five hits in the eighth and piled on six more runs in the ninth to finish the win.
