Unadilla’s David Ragan Wins Sprint Showdown From The Pole, Finishes 8th In All-Star Race
CONCORD, NC – Unadilla’s David Ragan won the pole for the Sprint Showdown event after being the fastest in practice on Friday. He then captured the win which advanced his UPS team into the Sprint All-star Race where he charged from the back to finish 8th.
After leading the entire first 20 lap segment, crew chief Drew Blickensderfer opted not to pit and to keep their track position during a break between segments.
Things got a little wild on the restart and Ragan lost the lead, but got it back at the end of the 20 laps to claim victory in the Sprint Showdown.
Ragan briefly celebrated the win before heading back to the track for the main event, the All-Star race and his shot to win a million dollars. started in the rear of the 21-car field, but worked his way forward to earn an eighth-place finish, while his teammate Carl Edwards went on to take the million dollar payout.
“A top 10 and it was certainly a fun race,” said Ragan. “I felt like we had a car that could have contended for the win, it’s just all about that track position.”
