Georgia Tech Duo Wins Golf Challenge

GREENSBORO, Ga. – It’s not football, but Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson has a win over Derek Dooley, Steve Spurrier, Frank Beamer and some other football coaches.

Johnson and former Georgia Tech basketball star Jon Barry shot an 11-under 61 Tuesday to win the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament Tuesday at the Reynolds Plantation resort.

Johnson and Barry beat Tennessee’s Dooley and Stanley Morgan, who were three strokes behind.

The event pairs coaches with a celebrity or former athlete from the coach’s school.

Mississippi’s Houston Nutt and Wesley Walls tied for third at 7-under with South Carolina’s Spurrier and Sterling Sharpe and Virginia Tech’s Beamer and Dell Curry.

Johnson and Barry won $120,000 in scholarships for Georgia Tech.
