MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hundreds of people from all walks of life came together on Monday to honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and continue his fight for justice and equality.

County officials, faith leaders and members of the community marched for miles from four separate starting points to gather together as one group at City Hall in Macon.

Community members sang and prayed, proving a powerful feeling of love and a desire to continue the fight Martin Luther King Jr. started decades ago.

“We all, as Americans, owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. King. All races black, white, yellow and brown,” Macon-Bibb District 3 Commission candidate Stanley Stewart said. “He made the fabric of our nation stronger. He held a mirror up to our nation and made sure that we all were included in the people.”

Attendees heard from pastors and Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller, who all delivered a common message of unity.

“Today is about peace and about love,” Miller said.
