Bibb Co. School District receives $1-million for “Leader in Me” initiative

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School District wants to make sure students succeed in the classroom and well after graduation.

During the One Macon meeting, the Charles H. Jones Family Foundation presented Bibb County School District with a $1-million check.

The school district prides itself in students practicing the “Leader in Me” initiative. It’s currently implemented in all elementary and middle schools.

The goal is to teach kids to become leaders, to lead themselves into college, other career ready programs, and to become productive adults.

“The money actually goes for training, for books, for web, resources, and for a lot of support for these kids as they go through the school year to learn the process of the Leader in Me, to practice that process so it becomes a part of the DNA of themselves,” Business Education Partnership Co-Chair Blake Sullivan said.

The district and the Business Education Partnership is raising money to get more high schools for the leader in me. Southwest High School, in Macon, is the first high school in Georgia that is part of the initiative.
