Macon- Bibb Hazmat team called to crash involving tractor trailer

MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – A crash involving a tractor trailer and car over the weekend caused The Macon-Bibb Fire Department’s Hazmat team to respond.

According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just after 9 Saturday morning on I-75 south in Macon, near the Rocky Creek Road exit. A tractor trailer, that was carrying liquid nitrogen, was attempting to merge from the middle lane to the right lane. It hit a Honda Accord when it began to merge. The driver of the tractor trailer veered to the left and hit a concrete wall. It began to roll onto its side and rolled onto the same Honda Accord.

The news release goes on to say, both drivers were taken to Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon and are in stable condition.

Traffic was temporarily diverted for almost 2 hours on I-75 south. The Macon-Bibb Fire Department’s Hazmat team also responded since the tractor trailer was carrying liquid nitrogen.

This crash is under investigation.
