UPDATE: Woman dies, second motorist upgraded to stable condition after head-on crash on Log Cabin Drive in Macon

According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 4:07 a.m. near the intersection of Log Cabin Drive and Meadowbrook Drive.

UPDATE: The family of JaNiecea Smith has started a GoFundMe page to help provide for her four daughters, ages 5 through 8.


UPDATE: The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says one of the drivers involved in a head-on crash early Saturday has died.

According to an updated news release, 28-year-old JaNiecea Iman Smith died at the hospital.

The second driver’s condition has been upgraded to stable.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a head-on crash early Saturday morning on Log Cabin Drive that left two drivers critically injured.

According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 4:07 a.m. near the intersection of Log Cabin Drive and Meadowbrook Drive. When deputies arrived, a Toyota Corolla was engulfed in flames with an unresponsive female driver inside. A deputy pulled her from the burning vehicle.

First responders from the Macon-Bibb Fire Department also rescued a second female driver from a Buick Enclave. Both women were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition.

Investigators say the driver of the Corolla was heading north on Log Cabin Drive when she crossed into the southbound lane, crashing into the Enclave.

Log Cabin Drive was temporarily shut down near Meadowbrook Drive but has since reopened.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.
