WRPD: Man sentenced to life in prison after deadly 2023 shooting
A man arrested in connection with the shooting death of Anthony Presley in May 2023 was found guilty of multiple charges on Wednesday and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

UPDATE (5/9/24) – A man arrested in connection with the shooting death of Anthony Presley in May 2023 was found guilty of multiple charges on Wednesday and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A Warner Robins Police Department news release says 39-year-old Andre Slocumb, who was taken into custody in Indiana, was found guilty of malice murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police say law enforcement tracked leads to Slocumb’s vehicle in Rome, Georgia, and with the assistance of Rome Police and the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Slocumb was located in Indiana.
Wednesday’s jury decision came after a “short deliberation,” according to police.
“The Warner Robins Police Department takes pride in the excellence our patrol officers, detectives, investigators and staff show each day,” the release stated.
In a separate news release, Houston County District Attorney William Kendall said evidence presented at trial showed Presley was shot multiple times with a high-caliber firearm while sitting in his own car at Wendan Way. Prosecutors presented text messages at trial demonstrating that the victim knew the defendant and that the two may have been feuding over an alleged drug debt. Several witnesses in the neighborhood had seen a green SUV pull alongside the victim’s car and heard multiple gun shots fired.
The green SUV fled the scene, but FLOCK safety cameras in the area captured the vehicle, allowing it to be identified as one belonging to Slocumb. The SUV was traced to a home in Rome, where one of Slocumb’s friends stored it for him. According to Kendall, a search warrant executed upon the infotainment system in the vehicle produced positioning data that placed Slocumb at the intersection where the murder took place at the exact time of the shooting. That data was corroborated by tracking data from Slocumb’s cell phone, according to Kendall.
Slocumb was captured and arrested in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 21, 2023.
“I recall visiting this crime scene and speaking with Detectives on scene less than a year ago, now we have a conviction,” Kendall said. “This is an example of comprehensive swift justice, as it should be. A job well done by WRPD, Rome PD, USMS and prosecutors. I appreciate our law enforcement for the determination and thorough investigation. At the Houston County DA’s Office our commitment is to seek justice for victims of crime. Sr. ADA Matson and ADA Gassett are revered professional prosecutors who carried this case to the finish line–sending this murderer off to prison for life. Although we cannot bring Mr. Presley back, we hoped to have provided some closure to the family.”
