WR Job Expo Helps Military Transition to Civilian

CivilianJobs.com hosted a career expo at the Courtyard by Marriot Conference Center in Warner Robins on Thursday.

More than 25 employers and 300 job seekers attended the event.

For many service members, making the transition from military life to a civilian career can be overwhelming without help.

Director of Job Fair Operations Vicki Washington says, “We have everything from administrative positions to technical positions and avionics positions – any job you see in the civilian sector you’re going to see here for military.”

The expo helps job seekers and employers. L3 Communications Recruiter Marty Moore recommends, “Do a lot of homework to understand what’s out there in the civilian job market and how the skills they gain in the military can translate into the civilian market.”

Recently retired from the Air Force, Kim Montfoort is keeping her fingers crossed for a new opportunity.

“I’m looking for anything in program management or business development.”

Others used the event to network and make a connection for future openings.

“Since it’s my first time coming to one of these, I thought I would just see what it’s all about, see what kind of opportunities are available and maybe get some advice,” said John Burditt.
