WorkSource Macon-Bibb holds graduation for participants

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – WorkSource Macon-Bibb held a graduation for its manufacturing fundamentals program Friday morning.

Graduates went through a twelve-week program. It consisted of education and work/life skill coaching.

Participants interned with a Macon-Bibb manufacturing employer. Many hope to get industry-recognized credentials.

Director of Workforce Development Terrilyan Hannah explains how the program helps participants get a job.

“We have many employers in Macon-Bibb County and in Middle Georgia that have a lot of jobs available. We’re facing challenges in getting those that need additional skills in the workforce. The people here, the people in this room, the people in the community, to connect with those opportunities,” says Hannah.

The final eight weeks place participants in real-world employment. A training plan is developed for each person.  The partnering employer supervises the participant to ensure accomplishment of set goals.

Participants work full-time and work the supervisor’s schedule. Worksource expects the candidates to meet the same standards as a new hire.

What Worksource participants learn

Those who participate in the Worksource program learn:

  • safety standards,
  • work process,
  • teamwork, and
  • production in a manufacturing environment.

After completion, successful participants receive reference letters. Some receive invitations to apply.
