Woman dead after girlfriend stabs her in front of police
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Warner Robins woman is in jail for killing her girlfriend in front of police.
Warner Robins Police have been to the couple’s home at Foxwood Apartments off Watson BLVD several times over domestic disputes. This time, it ended tragically.
“It’s really scary, so yeah I’m still kind of freaked out. I’m like, do we go out? What do we do? Do we stay? What do we do?” resident of Foxwood Apartments Anita Thomas said.
Thomas says she is on edge after hearing news of a neighbor being stabbed to death.
“I don’t know whether to be settled, but I’ll be on guard, doors will be locked,” Thomas said.
Just before six Thursday morning, Warner Robins Police responded to a domestic dispute call. When police arrived, 31-year-old Monis Howard-Roberts answered the door. That’s when the victim’s 25-year-old girlfriend, Shaneka Smith, came down the stairs stabbing Roberts in front of police. Officers deployed their tasers at the suspect.
“Officers are people too, so put it in perspective for you if you had opened a door and seen something like that transpire, how would you feel,” Warner Robins Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Parson said.
Smith stabbed Roberts in her chest, severing an artery. Roberts died from her injuries at a local hospital.
According to Parson, there’s a history of domestic disputes with the couple.
“In domestic violence situations there is a cycle of violence that continues and I want everyone to know that you can break that cycle, that we have resources in Warner Robins for those that are in domestic violence situations,” Parsons said.
Smith was just released from jail Wednesday after being charged with battery and obstruction. Smith is now charged with murder.
