Windsor Academy grad killed in California mass shooting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Staff at Windsor Academy in Macon confirmed a graduate at the private school died in Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

45-year-old Shannon Johnson, a member of the 1988 graduating class, was one of the 14 people killed in the shooting.

According to his LinkedIn page, Johnson worked as an environmental health specialist at the San Bernardino County Public Health Department.

A relative of a survivor posted this on Facebook:

“This angel of a man was sitting next to my sister when the shooting happened. He helped protect her from the bullets and we are so grateful for his heroic love, that most likely saved her life. She said he was a very sweet man and she spoke with him often at work. Our heart breaks hearing of his passing, and it bursts knowing of his love for my sister.” – Stephanie R. Baldwin

An NBC News article says the mayor of Los Angeles described Johnson as “one of our own.”

He lived with his girlfriend, Mandy Pfifer, in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles.

The mayor said in a statement:

“We offer our full support to Mandy in this unimaginably difficult time, and I send my deepest condolences to Shannon’s family and all who are grieving loved ones in the aftermath of this senseless tragedy.”

Windsor Academy is holding a moment of silence for Johnson at their basketball game Friday night. They’ll also have a portion of their chapel service recognizing Shannon on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
