Wind increases as September nears its end

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Wind will increase over the Peach State thanks to Imelda churning not far offshore.

While Monday morning was rather sunny the clouds wasted no time filling in around lunchtime. A stray shower will remain possible through the evening however overall odds are very low. Wind will flow from the northeast at 5-10 mph with the occasional gust pushing around 15 mph. Some clearing will be possible overnight however a handful of clouds will linger regardless. Low temperatures will largely be in the mid 60s, or a few degrees above average for this time of year.

Tomorrow

Another mostly cloudy day is likely Tuesday as the wind gets a bit stronger from the north-northeast. Sustained speeds will range from 5-15 mph with gusts likely pushing 20+. A bit more sun in the afternoon will be possible when compared to Monday. A stray shower also cannot be ruled out. Highs will largely be in the lower 80s across Middle Georgia.

Overnight will see some clearing with lows expected in the lower 60s. Wind will continue from the northeast at 5-12 mph with gusts hovering around 17 mph.

Wednesday and Beyond

The wind will continue Wednesday however sunnier skies will return. Highs will largely be in the low to mid 80s however highs in the 70s will be more likely Thursday and Friday.

The Tropics

Imelda was named over the weekend and in a pleasant change of trend is expected to travel northeast and stay out to sea. However the next few days it will churn not too far off the Georgia coast leading to increased winds around the state. Humberto remains a powerful hurricane and will also stay out to sea.
