White Team Wins Mercer Men’s Basketball Exhibition, 69-56

MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – Sophomore guard Ike Nwamu scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the White team to a 69-56 victory in the annual Mercer men’s basketball Orange and White scrimmage on Saturday morning.

Mercer’s intrasquad exhibition pitted teams of seven against each other for a pair of 15 minute periods. Six of the seven White team members reached double-figure scoring totals as the group shot 22-of-42 (52.4%) from the field.

Nwamu collected his 17 points on six-of-nine shooting in 19 minutes of work. He also added two steals and an assist in the winning effort. Junior forward Darious Moten collected 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in 24 minutes of action.

The Orange team was paced by senior guard Anthony White Jr., who shot four-of-eight from three point range en route to 16 points. Senior center Daniel Coursey led all players with eight rebounds while adding seven points.

The White team broke away from a slim 11-9 lead with 12 unanswered points midway through the first half. The victors would ultimately go up by as many as 22 in the period before settling on a 41-26 halftime lead.

In the second half, a Langston Hall jumper with 9:49 brought the Orange within 11 at 49-38, but the team would get no closer before the final buzzer.

Mercer opens the regular season at Texas on November 8. Game time in Austin is scheduled for 8 p.m.
