Wheeler County man drowns in Oconee River

ALAMO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A young adult has drowned in Wheeler County Thursday afternoon.

According to a news release, Wheeler County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a possible drowning  at Oconee River around 4:30 p.m.

Friends of the victim told authorities their friend went under the water and never resurfaced.

After four hours of searching the body was found near the area where the young man was last seen.

The identity of the young man has not been released.
