Westside football coach Sheddrick ‘Spoon’ Risper announces final season at the school
Coach Sheddrick “Spoon” Risper says he will leave the Westside post after the 2025 football season.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Sheddrick “Spoon” Risper, head football coach at Westside High School, announced on Facebook that the 2025 season will be his final one leading the Seminoles.
The Thomaston native shared the news in a post Monday.
“Well, it’s official,” he wrote. “This upcoming football season will be my final season at Westside.”
He also revealed that a behind-the-scenes docuseries will follow his final season at the west Macon school, airing every Thursday during football season. He said the series will include exclusive interviews, coaches’ meetings, game day moments and more.
“This upcoming year will be year 28 for me!” he wrote. “As usual, I will give my all to my football players, my school, my community, and for the BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT!!!”
In response to a comment, Risper stopped short of saying he’s retiring.
”I still have a lot left in the coaching tank!” he wrote.
Risper became Westside’s second head football coach in 2009, following in the footsteps of longtime coach Robert Davis. Over 16 seasons, Risper has compiled a 116-64 record and led the team to a region championship in 2012, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association. His teams have made the playoffs in 14 of 16 seasons, including trips to the state quarterfinals in 2009 and 2015.
Risper, known to many as “Coach Spoon,” competed for a spot on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior in 2018. He told 41NBC at the time that staying active was important due to a family history of heart disease.
“I know you can’t control everything, but there are some things you can control, so I try to exercise as much as possible (and) try to make it as vigorous as possible,” he said in the 2018 interview.
Risper closed his announcement with the words, “Final Lap.”
