GDC says the causes of death for Courtney Davis and Isreal Jones are undetermined and both cases are under standard investigation

DAVISBORO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Georgia Department of Corrections is investigating the deaths of two inmates at Washington State Prison.
GDC confirmed Monday that inmate Courtney Davis died on Saturday. The department says the cause of death is undetermined at this time, but there are no reports of an altercation and no signs of foul play.
Davis’ body was turned over to the county coroner and will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death, according to GDC.
GDC says Davis was convicted of aggravated battery out of Cobb County and was serving a 10-year sentence, with a maximum release date in 2030.
The department also confirmed the death of inmate Isreal Jones on Friday. GDC says the cause of his death is also undetermined.
Jones’ body was turned over to the county coroner and was taken to the GBI Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death, according to GDC.
GDC says Jones was convicted of armed robbery out of Chatham County and was serving a 45-year sentence, with a maximum release date in 2053.
Both deaths are being investigated by GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, which the department says is standard procedure.
GDC says additional details are not available because the investigations are ongoing.
