Washington County fire results in minor injury during rescue attempt
A fire in Washington County on New Year's Day resulted in a minor injury during a rescue attempt.

SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A fire on New Year’s Day resulted in a minor injury during a rescue attempt.
The fire happened just after 6 p.m. at 1144 Transylvania Drive, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
The report says one of the home’s occupants told deputies the fire may have started from a cigarette in the bedroom. One of the occupants was bitten by a dog while trying to get the dog out of the home. That person was taken to Washington County Regional Medical Center.
Deputies say Sandersville Fire Units extinguished the fire.
According to Fire Chief Nathan Riner, the fire was contained to one bedroom.
