Washington County Sheriff’s Office stops prison contraband smuggling attempt

DAVISBORO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office successfully intercepted an attempted prison contraband drop on Monday, June 3.

A deputy on patrol near Washington State Prison in Davisboro identified suspicious activity and took several people attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility into custody, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

“Our team remains steadfast in their mission to protect and serve our community,” Sheriff Joel Cochran said. “The continuous efforts to thwart prison drops are a testament to the vigilance and professionalism of our deputies. We will continue to apply pressure on those who seek to undermine the safety of our facilities and the well-being of our residents, workers, and inmates.”

39-year-old Kimberly Taylor-Moore of Covington faces several charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute (two counts), possession of schedule V controlled substance with intent to distribute, trading with inmates without consent of warden, trafficking marijuana, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, serious injury by vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, aggressive driving, speeding, failure to obey stop sign and too fast for conditions.

38-year-old Terrance Moore, also of Covington, was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute (two counts), possession of schedule V controlled substance with intent to distribute, trading with inmates without consent of warden, trafficking marijuana and trafficking methamphetamine.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that Washington State Prison remains secure,” Sherifff Cochran added. “The safety of our community is our top priority, and we will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize this commitment.”

Further arrests are expected, the sheriff’s office said.
