WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A planned protest at At Home Furniture on Watson Boulevard does not have a permit and violates city code, according to a public announcement from the Warner Robins Police Department.

A flyer circulating at a local school calls for people to protest at 2063 Watson Boulevard every Saturday from February 22 through March 22 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., police said.

The flyer, titled “DEFEND YOUR RIGHTS,” urges attendees to demand action from Rep. Austin Scott and references the well-known quote from Holocaust survivor Martin Niemöller about speaking out against oppression. However, police say no permit has been filed or approved for the assembly, which is required under Article III of Chapter 23 of the City of Warner Robins Municipal Code.

According to police, city code requires applications be filed with the Warner Robins Police Department no more than 90 days and no fewer than seven days before an event.

Police also said the protest is planned to be held on private property and that representatives from At Home Furniture told officers they have not given permission for the event and do not want it on their property.

“Anyone assembling will be in violation of Code Section 23-64 of the City of Warner Robins Municipal Code,” the department stated.

Police said the city supports the public’s right to assemble and speak freely but that it’s important to protect property, public safety and ensure compliance with local laws.
