Warner Robins PD has a lead in 27-year-old cold case

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After 27 years, a suspect is named in a 1987 Warner Robins homicide.

Willie Lewis Winters has been indicted for malice and felony murder.

He’s accused of killing Stephen Gary Jones.

He allegedly shot Jones with a handgun outside of a Warner Robins bar.

District Attorney George Hartwig says Jones’ father called him about the case.

“The father called me very well could be what kind of, you know, got this case brought back out of the drawer so to speak–figuratively speaking, and got it being looked at,” said Hartwig. “I’m not sure it was being looked at before so.”

This is the second cold case in the last few months the Warner Robins Police Department solved–the other involved another decades-old murder.
