Warner Robins Native Starts Speed Training Camp, Athletes Have Won Multiple Medals at National Track Meets
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Warner Robins native Ronnie Jackson played college football at Central Michigan University and at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
These days, he’s busy helping other middle Georgia athletes maximize their potential.
“I started off just coaching at the rec,” says Jackson. “From there, a couple parents asked me about training and working with the kids. It started from there, and it just kept going. Eventually, we started going to the meets and started running and winning. It just kept rolling and rolling and getting bigger and bigger.”
Jackson’s “Elite Athlete Summer Training Camp” emphasizes speed. The athletes who’ve been a part of it have won medal after medal at national track meets, but they say they get out of it exactly what they put in.
“I train and do exercises,” says Shaianne Sipsey, national track champion. “I do all my things right.”
“It’s hard,” says another champion, Jaylah Bailey. “You have to train hard, and you have to have dedication.”
Jackson says it takes dedication to turn potential into reality.
“I’m really hard on them at practice,” says Jackson. “I always push them, but I always let them know when it’s time to perform, that’s your time. That’s your day. I don’t want to have to coach that, because that’s your time. That’s what it’s all about. That’s what brings me to happiness, so to see them succeed and go off and go to college and all that, that’s what I’m doing it for.”
Jackson’s summer camp kicks off on June 3 and runs through July 20. Spots are going fast, so if you want to register, visit the camp website at summerspeedcamp.com.
