Warner Robins Mayor to Run for City Council

shaheenWARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen says he’s not running for re-election,
but he is running for city council.

Tuesday afternoon, Shaheen announced he’ll seek the post 1 seat in November.

That’s council man Mike Daley’s seat.

Shaheen says he’s running for council because he wants to run to fix the city charter, so it has either a full time mayor with more decision making power, or a part time mayor, not somewhere in between.

“The charter has got to be changed that’s either and I think the people need to decide, put it on a referendum on the ballot and let the people vote,” Shaheen said.

Shaheen won the mayor’s office back in 2009, he says he wants to work in the private sector and also serve the city.

Councilman Mike Daley chimed in on the news today.

Over the phone Daley told 41NBC this is Chuck’s day, and he would wait to announce his plans for re-election.

In regards to Mayor Shaheen’s announcement to seek post one,

“I think it was great news for the citizens and employees of Warner Robins,” Daley said.
