Warner Robins mayor gives emotion-filled speech during 9/11 ceremony

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – People in Houston County spent Tuesday morning honoring the thousands of Americans who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.

First responders like police and firefighters–current and retired–were among the attendees at the ceremony inside the Museum of Aviation.

An emotional Warner Robins Mayor, Randy Toms, shared his thoughts as a former firefighter and reflected on the sacrifice first responders made that day 17 years ago.

“It’s just hard to hold in the emotions that happen when you realize that people literally knew they weren’t coming down that day and they went up anyway,” he told 41NBC.

Toms says the level of sacrifice displayed by first responders during 9/11 is what local law enforcement and military members in Middle Georgia give each day to protect our communities.

During the ceremony, selected individuals were honored for their years of service.
