Warner Robins launches utility box art program to beautify city, showcase local talent

According to a news release, the initiative aims to use custom-designed vinyl wraps to transform standard utility boxes into public art pieces that promote community pride and beautify the city.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The city of Warner Robins is encouraging residents to participate in the Adopt-A-Box Utility Box Wrap Beautification Program.

According to a news release, the initiative aims to use custom-designed vinyl wraps to transform standard utility boxes into public art pieces that promote community pride and beautify the city.

All artwork submissions must be pre-approved by the City Review Panel and meet program guidelines before being placed into the program’s “look book” for sponsors to select from.

Participants can submit digital artwork or high-resolution designs, which will be professionally printed and installed as wraps on designated utility boxes.

Program guidelines include:

• All proposed artwork must be submitted digitally in high resolution or as digital artwork.

• Final designs must be suitable for public display and may not include nudity, political, religious, offensive, or copyrighted content. Designs also may not depict the faces of living individuals.

• Artwork should align with the theme inspiration guide provided.

• All designs must be original and created by the submitting artist or group. Submissions must not infringe on existing copyrights, trademarks or intellectual property, nor closely imitate existing works.

• Utility box wrap dimensions and templates will be provided upon proposal approval.

• Wrap printing and installation will be handled by an approved vendor. Participants are not responsible for physical installation.

• All artwork becomes the property of the city of Warner Robins upon acceptance and installation.

• Selected applicants will receive recognition through social media, city platforms, council recognition and possible local press.

Color usage guidelines:

To prevent overheating of utility cabinets and ensure the longevity of both equipment and artwork, the following rules apply to all wrap designs:

• No more than 20% of any single panel (front, back or sides) may incorporate dark colors, including but not limited to black, navy, charcoal, deep reds or dark browns.

• Excessive use of dark tones can cause cabinets to absorb and retain heat, potentially damaging internal components and shortening the life of the vinyl wrap.

• For driver safety, fluorescent yellow-green, orange, red or yellow may be used as accent colors but are not permitted as background or dominant colors on any single panel.
