Warner Robins first grader wins $5,000 for college in reading sweepstakes

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Good reading skills can lead to a better education. For one Warner Robins first grader, it means some money as well.

Six-year-old Molly Kate McDevitt won more than $5,000. The money will go toward her college education.

Molly Kate won the Path2College 529’s Summer Reading Program Sweepstakes. Her grandmother, Kelly McDevitt, entered her into the contest.

We started reading to her when she was an infant. Our whole family loves books, reads probably too many,” McDevitt said. “So it’s nice to know that we’re going to have that nice, good foundation to start off that fund for her.”

This is the second year in a row a Warner Robins student won the sweepstakes.

The Houston County Public Library also won more then $1,500 in the contest.
