MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Cherry Blossom Festival is preparing to honor local veterans with Macon-Bibb County’s Veterans Day Parade in downtown Macon on Sunday, November 8, at 3 p.m.
41NBC is partnering with the Cherry Blossom Festival for this year’s celebration, which will feature more than 20 veterans units, patriotic floats, marching bands and a C-130 flyover from Robins Air Force Base.
Hannah Theus with the Cherry Blossom Festival joined 41NBC to discuss what the community can expect.
“We are so honored to host the Veterans Day parade right here in downtown Macon, November 8th at 3 p.m. We’re looking forward to a wonderful, wonderful time,” Theus said.
The parade will include a military Gold Star family, representatives from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations and the Department of Veterans Affairs in Dublin.
Amazon, the presenting sponsor, will participate with a float alongside Cherry Blossom Festival royalty and other community organizations.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is also donating money to the Georgia Department of Veterans Services as part of its efforts to support veterans.
The parade begins at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cherry Street, travels down Cherry Street, turns right onto First Street and then right onto Mulberry Street before ending at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Organizers recommend arriving between 2 and 2:30 p.m. to find parking and secure a viewing spot before the parade and flyover begin at 3 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, bring American flags and support downtown businesses during the celebration.
