UPDATE: Woman, dog found dead inside car at Macon rest area
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tells 41NBC a woman and a poodle were found dead inside a Nissan Altima at a rest area on I-475 Wednesday afternoon.
Jones identified the woman as 60-year-old Marcia Abbott of Sandy Springs. Lt. Randy Gonzalez with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office tells 41NBC Abbott committed suicide. Gonzalez says she left behind a note asking for someone to care of her dog.
Investigators found pills inside her car. There were no signs of foul play.
The coroner says a poodle was also found dead inside the vehicle. Gonzalez says the dog most likely died from the heat.
The incident happened at the rest stop heading north on the interstate between the Thomaston and Zebulon Road exits.
